Can You Create a Full Personalised Uniform Sets on a Budget?

image 1 scaled

A full personalised uniform set (polo shirt, hoodie or sweatshirt, and an outer layer) can cost as little as £30–£50 per employee when you order for a team of 10 or more in the UK. That's garments plus your logo embroidered or printed, ready to wear. We kit out cafés, construction firms, PT studios, corporate offices, and everything in between from our East London workshop, and most of those businesses start with the same question: can we actually afford this? Almost always, yes. It comes down to choosing the right garments, the right branding method, and ordering at the right quantities.

Below is what it actually costs to build a uniform set in the UK in 2026, using our Brandum pricing throughout. We've priced up four real uniform bundles from scratch so you can see the numbers, and we'll go through which garments work for which industries, when embroidery makes more sense than printing, and how ordering quantities change the maths more than most people expect.

Key Takeaways

  • A basic branded uniform (polo + embroidered logo) starts from around £14–£15 per person at quantities of 24+
  • A full 3-piece set (polo + hoodie + softshell, all branded) runs roughly £30–£55 per person depending on garments and quantities
  • Embroidery is best for polos, fleeces, and caps because it lasts the life of the garment. DTF printing is better for full-colour logos, large back prints, and technical fabrics
  • The biggest cost saver is ordering 24+ pieces. Embroidery per-position drops by over 50% compared to samples of 1–7
  • One-time £20 digitising fee per logo for embroidery, paid once and never again on reorders
  • No minimum order at Brandum — but the sweet spot for value is 8+ garments per style

What Does a Personalised Uniform Set Actually Include?

A personalised uniform set is a coordinated collection of branded garments that your team wears to represent your business. At minimum, it's a single garment with your logo. A polo shirt with an embroidered chest logo is the most common starting point. A full set typically includes a base layer (polo or t-shirt), a mid layer (hoodie or sweatshirt), and optionally an outer layer (softshell jacket, fleece, or gilet), all carrying your logo in a consistent position.

The "personalised" part means your company logo, business name, or design applied to each garment. The two main methods are embroidery (stitched directly into the fabric, premium and hardwearing) and printing (DTF, screen print, or direct-to-garment, better for full-colour or large designs). Which method you choose affects cost, durability, and the look of the finished uniform. More on that in the comparison section below.

What you don't need is anything complicated. Nine times out of ten, the most professional-looking uniforms we produce are the simplest: one or two garment types, one logo position (left chest), consistent colours across the team. Done. The businesses that blow their budget on uniforms are almost always the ones that overcomplicate things: different designs for different departments, names on every garment, logos on four positions. Keep it simple and you keep it affordable.

Real Costs: What You'll Pay Per Employee in 2026

The cost of a personalised uniform depends on three things: the garment itself, the branding method, and how many you order. These are our actual Brandum prices for the most common uniform garments, including logo application.

Garment Prices (Including One Logo Position)

The prices below include the garment and a single embroidered or printed logo on the left chest. Embroidery pricing shown is at the 24+ piece rate (the most common uniform order size). All prices are what you pay. No hidden VAT at checkout.

Fleecefrom £14from £19from £17
Cap / Beaniefrom £5from £10N/A (embroidery preferred)
Apronfrom £8from £13from £11

Note: Embroidery pricing above is based on a standard left chest logo under 5,000 stitches (approximately 10 cm wide) at the 24+ piece rate of £4.75 per position, plus a one-time £20 digitising fee for the logo. The digitising fee is paid once; every reorder after that only pays the per-garment rate. Full embroidery pricing by stitch count is on our embroidery page.

Embroidery Pricing by Quantity (Per Position)

Quantity is the biggest lever you have. Look at how the per-position embroidery price drops as your order grows:

Stitch Band (logo size)Sample (1–7 pcs)8 pcs16 pcs24+ pcs
<5k stitches (≈10 cm wide)£11.00£5.50£5.00£4.75
<10k stitches (≈15 cm wide)£13.00£6.50£6.00£5.75
<20k stitches (≈20 cm wide)£15.00£7.50£7.00£6.75
<35k stitches (≈27 cm wide)£17.00£8.50£8.00£7.75

Sample to 8+ is more than 50% off. That's a big deal. If you're ordering uniforms, try to hit at least 8 pieces per style. Even if you only have 4 staff, ordering 2 of each garment per person gets you into the bulk bracket and gives everyone a rotation for washing.

Embroidery vs DTF Print vs Screen Print: Which to Use

Embroidery is the default choice for most workwear. It outlasts the garment itself, it looks premium, and it handles industrial washing without fading. But it can't do everything. If your logo has more than 9 colours, or you need a large back print, or you're working with stretchy technical fabrics, you'll need printing instead.

Our recommendation for most uniform orders: embroider the polos, fleeces, and caps (left chest logo). Use DTF printing for t-shirts and hoodies, especially if your logo is full-colour or you want a larger back print. This mixed approach gives you the premium embroidered look on your smartest garments and the flexibility of full-colour printing on your casual layers.

If your logo has gradients, photographs, or more than 9 colours, embroidery can't reproduce it. You'll need DTF or screen print. If your logo is a simple 2–3 colour mark (which most business logos are), embroidery will look better and last longer on structured garments like polos and jackets. Not sure which suits your logo? Send it over and we'll tell you in two minutes.

Four Uniform Bundles Priced From Scratch

Numbers are more useful than descriptions when you're trying to set a budget, so we've priced up four real bundles based on our corporate apparel bundles. All at the 24+ piece rate. All prices include the garment and one embroidered logo per item (left chest, under 5k stitches). Add the one-time £20 digitising fee to your first order.

Bundle 1: The Starter — Polo + Logo (Minimum Viable Uniform)

For businesses that just need to look professional and consistent without a big investment.

ItemPrice per Person
2 × Embroidered Polo Shirts (left chest logo)~£28
Total per employee~£28

For a team of 10, that's roughly £280 + £20 digitising = £300 total. Two polos each gives everyone a rotation for washing. This is how most small businesses start. Cafés, barber shops, small retail teams.

Bundle 2: The Standard — Polo + Hoodie (Most Popular)

The set we supply more than any other. A polo for warm days and customer-facing work, a branded hoodie for layering.

ItemPrice per Person
2 × Embroidered Polo Shirts~£28
1 × Embroidered Hoodie~£19
Total per employee~£47

For a team of 10: roughly £470 + £20 digitising = £490 total. Under £50 per person for a full branded look. This bundle works for trades, gyms, cleaning companies, startups. Anyone who needs warm and cool options.

Bundle 3: The Full Set — Polo + Hoodie + Softshell

Three layers covering every season. This is our Starter Team Pack equivalent.

ItemPrice per Person
2 × Embroidered Polo Shirts~£28
1 × Embroidered Hoodie~£19
1 × Embroidered Softshell Jacket~£25
Total per employee~£72

For a team of 10: roughly £720 + £20 digitising = £740 total. That's a full three-layer branded uniform for under £75 per person. Less than a single high-street jacket.

Bundle 4: The Budget Option — Printed T-Shirts Only

For events, promotional teams, or businesses that just need basics fast and cheap.

ItemPrice per Person
3 × Printed T-Shirts (DTF chest logo)~£15
Total per employee~£15

For a team of 10: roughly £150 total. Three branded t-shirts each for the price of a takeaway. At bulk quantities of 50+, printed tees can go as low as £5 per garment with a small chest print, which makes this the cheapest way to get your team in matching branded kit.

The Biggest Cost Savings Most Businesses Miss

The single biggest way to reduce your uniform cost is ordering at the right quantity. Most businesses that come to us thinking uniforms are too expensive are mentally pricing at single-garment rates. The jump from sample pricing (1–7 pieces) to 8+ pieces cuts your embroidery cost by more than half.

The second thing that catches people out is ordering one garment per person. If you have 5 staff and order 1 polo each, you're in the 1–7 sample bracket at £11 per embroidery position. Order 2 each and you've got 10 pieces, which puts you in the 8+ band at £5.50. You've doubled the garments but barely increased the total cost. Your team also gets a spare for wash days, which they'll appreciate more than you think.

Logo positions add up fast. Every additional embroidery position (sleeve, back, collar) adds another per-position charge on every garment. A left chest logo is the industry standard for uniforms and it's all most businesses need. If you want something on the back, DTF printing is usually cheaper than embroidery for larger areas.

Logo complexity matters too. A 3-colour logo under 5,000 stitches (roughly 10 cm wide) sits in the cheapest embroidery band. Start adding fine detail, extra colours, or more width and you push into higher stitch bands. If your logo is complex, our graphic design team can create a simplified version that looks just as good on a polo but costs less to stitch.

One thing we tell every new customer: don't buy the cheapest blank garments on the market. A £7 polo saves you £2 upfront, but it fades after 10 washes and needs replacing within months. A mid-range Fruit of the Loom Premium at £9 holds its shape and colour for a year or more of daily wear. That £2 saving ends up costing you an entire replacement cycle.

We learned this one ourselves. We used to offer the cheapest blank options because customers asked for them. Then we'd get calls three months later asking for replacements. Now we steer people toward the mid-range garments from the start, and the complaints stopped.

Finally, plan your reorders. Your logo digitising is a one-time £20 cost. After that, every reorder only pays the garment plus per-position rate. Businesses that do quarterly top-ups spend less per year than the ones who place panicked one-off orders when someone's hoodie gives up.

Industry Guide: What to Order for Your Sector

Every industry we supply has slightly different needs. Rather than guess, here's what we actually see working based on the orders that come through our workshop.

Hospitality is our biggest uniform sector. Cafés, restaurants, bars — they all land on polo shirts because they look smart, wash easily at commercial temperatures, and handle spills without looking ruined by the end of a shift. Add branded aprons for kitchen and front-of-house staff and you've got a complete look. We always push embroidery for hospitality because a stitched logo won't crack or peel in a commercial washing machine the way a print can. Dark colours hide stains better. The most popular combo we supply is a black polo with white embroidered logo plus a matching black apron. Probably 40% of our uniform orders are some variation of that.

Trades and construction are the other big one. Durability is the only thing that matters. Polo shirts and hoodies for daily wear, softshell or fleece for outdoor work. If your team needs hi-vis, we do branded hi-vis vests and jackets too. Embroidery takes the abuse better than printing. Plaster dust, paint, 60°C weekend washes. A stitched logo survives all of it.

Corporate and events are simpler. Smart polos or long-sleeve shirts with an embroidered logo for offices, printed t-shirts for events (cheap at volume, full-colour artwork). See our branded merchandise page for event bundles.

For gyms and PTs, technical fabrics are important because cotton gets heavy with sweat. DTF printing works better on polyester and moisture-wicking blends because embroidery can pucker on stretchy material unless you use the right backing. We supply a lot of personal trainers, and the combo that works best is a printed performance tee for sessions plus an embroidered hoodie for the gym floor.

School leavers hoodies are one of our biggest seasonal products. We do hundreds every spring. For staff uniforms, polo shirts with an embroidered school crest. We handle class names, individual names on leavers hoodies, and staff versus student colour variants.

Common Uniform Ordering Mistakes That Cost Money

We've kitted out hundreds of businesses at this point. Same mistakes keep coming up.

The most common one is testing a single garment at sample pricing and then deciding uniforms are too expensive. One polo at sample rate costs £9 garment + £11 embroidery = £20. At 24+ pieces, that same polo with embroidery is around £14. The sample price and the uniform price are completely different numbers. Always ask for a bulk quote before you make a budget decision.

Size availability trips people up more than you'd expect. Someone finds the perfect polo, orders 20, then discovers it doesn't come in 3XL or 4XL for two of their team. Now they're running a second garment in a slightly different shade or cut, and the uniform looks inconsistent. Check the full size range first. We stock most garments from XS to 5XL.

We'd also push back on over-personalising with individual names. It seems like a nice touch, but it means every garment is locked to one person. When someone leaves, their uniform is useless. When a new starter joins, you need a fresh order. Logo-only uniforms can be rotated between staff, handed to new starters, and reordered in any size without waste. If names matter to you, put them on a hoodie or jacket only, something that stays with one person long-term.

Staff comfort is worth caring about. If the uniform is uncomfortable, people either won't wear it or will wear it resentfully, and both show. Let people try sizes where possible. We can send samples before a bulk order.

And the one that frustrates us most: ordering from overseas to save money. We've lost count of the businesses that have come to us after receiving uniforms from overseas suppliers where the embroidery was off-centre, the thread colours were wrong, and the garment quality was nothing like the website photos. By the time they've paid shipping, waited 4–6 weeks, and then reordered from a UK supplier anyway, they've spent more than if they'd come to us first. We embroider in-house in East London. You can visit, check quality, and get your order in days.

How We Work: From Quote to Delivery

If you haven't ordered branded uniforms before, the process is simpler than you'd think.

Start by sending us a quote request with your logo, rough numbers, garment types, and any colour preferences. If you're not sure what you need, just tell us your industry and team size and we'll suggest something. We'll come back with a clear, itemised quote within a few hours. No hidden fees, no surprises at checkout.

Before anything goes into production, you see a proof. For embroidery, that's a stitch preview showing exact thread colours and placement. For print, it's a digital mock-up on the garment. You approve it, we make it.

Turnaround after approval is typically 24–72 hours for embroidery, 24–48 hours for printing. Bigger orders might take a few extra days. Delivery is UK-wide by courier, or you can collect from our workshop in East London if you're nearby. We keep your logo file and garment specs on record, so reorders are just a message with sizes and quantities.
